Cowpens, South Carolina is a growing town on the east side of
Spartanburg County, adjacent to Cherokee County.
Located just of Interstate 85, the area was made famous by the Battle of
Cowpens in 1781. A national battlefield now marks the spot of the
infamous revolutionary war battle.
The town also has the honor of having two naval ships carry its name.
- The USS Cowpens, CVL25, was a WWII aircraft carrier in the
1940's.
- The USS Cowpens, CG63, an Aegis Guided Missile Cruiser currently
assigned to the Seventh Fleet.
The population of the Town of Cowpens is about 2500, although the
Cowpens community and zip code areas are much larger, extending into
both Spartanburg and Cherokee Counties.
